WHAT MAKES BRAZIL NUTS SO SPECIAL

It can take 20 years for a Brazil nut tree to begin producing nuts, and they can continue to produce for well over 500 years.

The trees only produce fruit in the wild when certain conditions are met, such as the presence of specific pollinators, like orchid bees, and the availability of sufficient rainfall. Because of these factors, Brazil nut trees are typically harvested from the wild rather than grown commercially in plantations, making their cultivation and harvest difficult to control.

The Brazil nut pod is a large, woody, spherical fruit that typically measures between 10 and 15 centimeters in diameter. The pods have a hard, woody exterior that can be difficult to crack open, and they are covered in small, sharp, needle-like spines that protect the seeds inside. Each Brazil nut pod contains between 10 and 25 individual Brazil nuts, which are arranged in a circular pattern inside the pod.
